Job Description:

Uber's Autonomous Mobility & Delivery (AM&D) team is redefining how people and goods move through the world using self-driving technology. We design the tools, systems, and human AI interfaces that enable autonomy to operate safely and at global scale. We are looking for a Lead Product Designer with deep technical fluency and a passion for designing complex robotic and AI driven systems. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in highly technical environments, partners closely with engineering, and shapes product direction while raising the bar for design across the team.

Job Responsibility:

  • Contribute to product strategy and roadmap definition in partnership with Product, Engineering, and Operations, helping prioritize investments and define long term design direction
  • Translate complex technical constraints, autonomy behaviors, and real time data flows into clear, usable, and resilient interfaces
  • Partner deeply with engineering, PM, research, and operations to shape product direction from early technical exploration through execution
  • Drive design strategy for complex problem spaces, balancing human factors, system reliability, and operational efficiency
  • Design and evolve scalable interaction patterns, frameworks, and internal design systems for autonomy and robotics tooling
  • Coach and mentor other designers through regular critique, feedback, and hands on collaboration, helping grow technical and systems design capability within the team
  • Set a high bar for craft, clarity, and execution, influencing quality beyond your immediate product area

Requirements:

  • 7+ years of experience in Product Design or equivalent practical experience, with demonstrated ownership of complex systems
  • Strong portfolio showcasing deeply technical work, including internal tools, robotics interfaces, AI driven products, or operational platforms
  • Proven ability to design for complex workflows, edge cases, and high consequence environments
  • Advanced proficiency with Figma and modern design and prototyping workflows
  • Strong foundation in information architecture, interaction design, and systems thinking
  • Excellent communication skills and comfort working closely with highly technical partners in ambiguous problem spaces
  • Experience designing for autonomous systems, robotics, or advanced AI driven products
  • Background in tooling design, including internal platforms, operational dashboards, or control interfaces
  • Familiarity with real time systems, geospatial data, live monitoring, telemetry, or remote assistance workflows
