The Lead Power Systems Engineer plays a pivotal technical leadership role within Aurecon’s Energy practice, supporting the delivery of complex grid connection and power system studies across renewable generation, storage and transmission infrastructure. You will act as a senior technical authority on projects, leading studies, guiding modelling strategy, mentoring engineers, and engaging directly with key clients, government authorities, network service providers and developers. This role provides a clear technical leadership pathway toward Principal level responsibility.
Job Responsibility:
Lead complex grid connection studies, system strength, and transmission/distribution planning studies
Provide technical leadership in RMS and EMT modelling workflows across various technologies
Lead compliance activities relating to power system modelling, planning studies, grid connection studies, registration processes with government authorities and network service providers
Undertake and review power quality studies
Provide peer review of technical reports, models and project outputs
Advanced use of PSS®E and PSCAD/EMTDC (PowerFactory desirable)
Lead steady-state, dynamic and EMT simulation activities
Contribute to the development of automation and modelling standards
Act as technical lead on projects and client engagements
Support scope development, proposals and project planning
Liaise directly with government authorities, network service providers, OEMs and developers
Mentor and coach junior and senior engineers
Support internal capability development and knowledge sharing
Requirements:
Degree qualified in Electrical Engineering
8+ years' experience in power system studies within the NEM
Strong expertise in generator and transmission planning
Advanced capability in PSS®E and PSCAD
Demonstrated technical leadership and mentoring experience
Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
