An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Lead Mechanical Fitter to join a major UK port and logistics operation based in Barton upon Humber. This well established business handles millions of tonnes of cargo every year and plays a critical role in supporting the energy, construction, manufacturing, and agriculture sectors. With ongoing investment in engineering, infrastructure, and equipment, this is a stable, long term opportunity to join a highly respected business operating within a safety critical industrial environment.

Job Responsibility

  • Lead and support the mechanical maintenance team
  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance and reactive breakdown repairs
  • Diagnose and resolve mechanical faults quickly and effectively
  • Work on conveyors, bucket elevators, hoppers, silos, and dust collection systems
  • Maintain gearboxes, motors, bearings, hydraulics, and pneumatic systems
  • Carry out alignment work using laser alignment and dial test indicators
  • Support root cause analysis and continuous improvement projects
  • Ensure all work is completed safely and in line with company procedures
  • Liaise closely with operations, electrical, and health and safety teams
  • Provide occasional out of hours and weekend support when required

Requirements

  • Level 3 NVQ or City & Guilds in Mechanical Engineering
  • At least 5 years of post apprenticeship mechanical maintenance experience
  • Experience working in heavy industrial environments such as ports, quarrying, mining, steelworks, power generation, or oil and gas
  • Experience working on conveyors, bulk handling systems, and materials handling equipment
  • Good knowledge of hydraulics and pneumatics
  • Experience with gearboxes, motors, bearings, cranes, rigging, and slinging
  • Comfortable working at height and in confined spaces
  • Supervisory or team leadership experience
  • Must be flexible to work occasional weekends in line with operational requirements
  • Full UK driving licence
