We are seeking a Lead Mechanical Designer to support the growth of a Mining & Minerals engineering team in NSW. The role involves contributing to studies and project delivery across materials handling, plant design, and mechanical systems.
Job Responsibility:
Lead concept designs, 3D models, and detailed drawings for minerals and heavy industry projects
Produce mechanical design layouts and drawings with minimal supervision, meeting client and project needs
Deliver accurate 3D/2D outputs aligned with engineering standards, codes, and site requirements
Integrate vendor data into models for equipment and materials handling systems
Lead BIM-compliant model development, including clash detection and data coordination
Provide estimates, progress updates, and reporting for design deliverables
Participate in design reviews, project meetings, and multidisciplinary coordination
Work across design scopes such as conveyors, transfer stations, major equipment, comminution, piping/pumping, screening/crushing, hoppers, bins, and chutes
Support design delivery across both process and non-process infrastructure
Requirements:
10+ years’ mechanical design experience in minerals or heavy industry
Strong understanding of mechanical principles, mining equipment, chute design, and safety requirements
Proficient with 2D/3D CAD tools (MicroStation, Smart3D Plant, AutoCAD)
Knowledge of relevant standards, Building Codes, and regulatory requirements
Experienced in BIM/DE workflows and model coordination
Strong communicator to lead design discussions and collaborate with teams
Proactive, detail-focused, and committed to ongoing development
