Oversee the day-to-day activities in an animal diagnostic reference laboratory performing laboratory analyses and tests to diagnose various animal illnesses, injuries and diseases in support of veterinarian animal treatment. Supervises staff, assigns work and evaluates results.
Job Responsibility:

Supervise staff, assign work and monitor activities
Resolve escalated issues
Administer employment actions, provide coaching and guidance to staff and promote staff training and development
Provides input to department policies and procedures
Leads work activities of the lab planning and organizing work, providing for adequate staffing and resources and maintaining work on schedule so that ongoing customer satisfaction is maintained
Communicate with other related departments and laboratory supervisors and managers to coordinate work and resolve issues as needed
Contribute to the maintenance of department diagnostic equipment and other technical resources
Coordinate with internal personnel, vendors and others as needed to resolve issues and maintain ongoing functionality
Train on all areas to include Specimen Processing, Chemistry, Hematology, UA and Coag according to all SOP’s
Oversee the entering and releasing of results
Responsible for the performance of tests such as Hematology –Urinalysis, PT, PTT, CBC, Avian CBC, Cytology and Manual Differentials
Read UA slides at a minimum rate of 45 per hour
Responsible for the performance of tests such as Chemistry –Olympus, T4-Olympus, CBC-Advia, Progesterone, PT, PTT, Platelet count, Reticulocytes and UA
In 24-hour laboratories, may also be responsible for the performance of tests such as Serology – FCV, HWAB, Accuplex, HW, FELV, FIV-IFA, all other IFA testing as required and FIV EIA test results
In 24-hour laboratories, may also be responsible for the performance of tests such as Parasitology - required fecal testing, which may include Giardia ELISA setup and testing and other miscellaneous test
Train on startup, daily use and end of day functions of analyzers
Train on daily, weekly and monthly maintenance
Oversee the building and packing of send outs to the main lab
Train on workflow and production goals
Review of supplies and Ordering in IOS
Review of QC Protocols and monitor Antech University
Assist with lab openings by providing training support on site
Where applicable, provide feedback regarding staff performance to RVP or Regional Lab Manager
May be asked to participate in enterprise initiatives, special projects, and other duties as assigned
Requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology or equivalent combination of education and work experience of 3 years in a clinical laboratory
Laboratory skills and experience
General science background
Attention to detail and ability to work independently
Organized with the ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment
Excellent verbal and written communication skill
Personal computer skills, strong typing ability, and knowledge of Microsoft Office
Extensive sitting, phone, and computer use
Capable of standing continuously for up to 2 hours
Extend and reach with hands and arms and use hands and fingers
Occasionally required to bend, kneel, stoop, or crouch
May be required to lift, move, and carry up to 20 lbs
Moderate microscopy
Specific vision abilities required include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
Hearing ability to effectively communicate via the telephone and in person
