The Lead Laboratory Technician oversees the day-to-day activities in an animal diagnostic reference laboratory performing laboratory analyses and tests. Supervises staff, assigns work and evaluates results.
Job Responsibility:
Supervise day-to-day activities in the laboratory performing laboratory analyses and tests
Supervise staff, assign work and monitor activities
Resolve escalated issues
Administer employment actions, provide coaching and guidance to staff and promote staff training and development
Provides input to department policies and procedures
Leads work activities of the lab planning and organizing work, providing adequate staffing and resources and maintaining work on schedule so that ongoing customer satisfaction is maintained
Communicate with other related departments and laboratory supervisors and managers to coordinate work and resolve issues as needed
Contribute to the maintenance of department diagnostic equipment and other technical resources
Coordinate with internal personnel, vendors and others as needed to resolve issues and maintain ongoing functionality
Train on all according to all Standard Operating Procedures
Oversee the entering and releasing of results
Oversee the building and packing of send outs to the main lab
Train on workflow and production goals
Order and maintain an appropriate level of supplies
Review of Quality Control Protocols
Provide feedback regarding staff performance to leadership
Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent required
2- or 4-year degree in science related field preferred or minimum of 1-year clinical laboratory experience
Prior leadership experience preferred
Laboratory skills and experience
General science background
Attention to detail and ability to work independently
Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
The ability to communicate information so others will understand
Personal computer skills, strong typing ability, and knowledge of Microsoft Office
Proficiency in the English language which allows for participation in team meetings, accurate entry of data into company systems and understanding of written directions
