Job Description:

We are seeking a highly experienced Lead Hand Mechanic to support and lead our Mississauga shop team. In this role, you will oversee technicians while performing advanced mechanical diagnostics, repairs, and maintenance on a variety of automotive-based Aircraft Ground Support Equipment (GSE).

Job Responsibility:

  • Lead and support a team of shop technicians, providing guidance, training, and hands-on assistance
  • Perform preventative maintenance, diagnostics, repairs, and overhauls on a wide range of automotive-based GSE equipment
  • Troubleshoot mechanical issues on diesel and gas engines, industrial equipment, hydraulic systems, compressors, and generators
  • Conduct refurbishment and modification projects to extend equipment life and improve performance
  • Read and interpret mechanical drawings, schematic diagrams, and technical documentation
  • Use precision measuring tools, hand tools, and power tools safely and effectively
  • Complete accurate job costing and maintain documentation using Excel, Word, and other computer applications
  • Collaborate with shop staff to maintain workflow, safety standards, and quality expectations
  • Demonstrate professionalism and sound judgment when working under pressure or in challenging situations
  • Diagnose issues with a “repair-first” mindset—fixing components when possible rather than simply replacing parts

Requirements:

  • Minimum 5 years of hands-on mechanical experience in automotive, trucks, industrial equipment, or heavy machinery
  • Strong leadership skills with experience mentoring or supervising mechanics or technicians
  • Advanced mechanical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot complex systems
  • Proficiency in repairing diesel/gas engines, hydraulics, compressors, and generators
  • Ability to read blueprints, schematic drawings, and use precision measurement tools
  • Strong communication skills with clear English proficiency
  • Effective under pressure with proven professionalism in demanding environments
  • Solid computer skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Must own a comprehensive set of mechanic’s hand tools and safety footwear
