Finance plays an important role at the strategic planning table and helps influence the future direction of Shopify. We’re currently looking for a Lead Financial Analyst to join our Infrastructure Finance team, focusing on financial management of Shopify’s AI infrastructure. The role involves partnering with R&D, Data, and Product teams to understand business requirements for financial planning, investment decisions, business case analysis, and storytelling to a broader Shopify and senior management audience. Identifying and supporting optimization and efficiency opportunities will also be part of this analytical role.

  • Being a strategic partner across R&D and Product providing financial support to decision-making and reporting outcomes
  • Supporting forecasting and reporting cycles
  • Gathering information from business partners to inform financial plans, developing actionable management reporting including dashboards and KPIs, and overseeing monthly variance analysis and operating reviews to track business success
  • Identifying and tracking cost drivers and outcomes–unit economics, value-oriented spend management
  • Assessing risks and opportunities across the investment space and raising to decision-makers through strong communication skills
  • Building robust financial models that drive business decisions
  • Staying updated on emerging AI technologies, and identifying opportunities to automate repetitive manual tasks using tools like SQL, Python and AI to improve FP&A workflows

  • Proven track record of driving significant impact in complex and ambiguous business situations
  • R&D finance background working with engineering teams on general FP&A activities
  • Familiarity with cloud infrastructure and AI chips, models, and APIs
  • Strong communication skills–ability to distill complex, technical topics into concise, understandable terms
  • Significant experience in financial modeling and strategic business planning
  • Strong understanding of SQL and Python, with the ability to write complex queries, perform data extraction and manipulation, and maintain data integrity
  • Genuine enthusiasm for AI, tinkering with new tools, and exploring innovative solutions, and an excellent ability to mentor and teach the same
  • A growth mindset, a builder’s mentality and a proven history of effective execution
  • The ability to thrive in a fast-moving, ambiguous work environment and to navigate through change
  • Track record of strong performance in data science, management consulting, investment banking, FP&A, or a related field
  • Experience in tech, fintech or other SaaS-based business models
  • Demonstrated experience transforming or automating FP&A processes
