Job Description

Reporting to the Manager of Environment this role will lead the approvals functions by ensuring all Environmental Approvals are sought and maintained to support the Australian business. The role will be responsible for the collation and preparation of approvals applications and submissions, and the administration of all aspects of environmental approvals related compliance for PLS operations and projects. As required, it will coordinate the environmental and technical studies required to support approvals, and the acquisition and interpretation of data required for comprehensive environmental impact assessments.

Job Responsibility

  • Lead the planning, preparation and management of environmental approvals for PLS Australian assets, including mining operations, exploration activities and resource development initiatives
  • Prepare, maintain and communicate short-term (1Y) and medium-term (5Y) Approvals Strategies and their Implementation Plans
  • Track, regularly report progress and ensure compliance with the developed strategies and plans
  • Lead the consultation, submissions, applications, amendments and compliance reporting before local and federal regulators
  • Prepare the annual budget associated to Approvals and ensure compliance with it
  • Lead the efforts of PLS internal resources and external consultants as required, to ensure coordinated, efficient and timely preparation and grant of approvals
  • Communicate compliance requirements of granted approvals amongst relevant teams
  • Report approvals and compliance issues to the Business via the Manager of Environment
  • Ensure the environmental compliance database (ie INX software) and approvals tracking programs are maintained and reported against

Requirements

  • Tertiary Qualifications – Environment, Engineering, Law or associated areas
  • 5-7 yrs minimum previous experience managing and coordinating environmental approvals and liaising with statutory authorities
  • Self- sufficient and well organized
  • Ability to drive and negotiate agreements and approvals through agencies, consultants, authorities and legal teams
  • Collaborative approach to achieve outcomes and coordinate approval requirements
  • Ability to build rapport and foster work relations
  • Through understanding of regulatory requirements

Nice to have

  • Some previous exposure to native titles and engaging with external stakeholders desirable
  • Experience working with GIS databases (ideally QGIS) desirable
