Job Description

Lead Electrical Engineer - Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Sector: Energy - Oil & Gas. Function: Engineering & Design. Employment type: Contract.

Job Responsibility

  • Lead and manage all instrumentation engineering activities for offshore projects across FEED, Detailed Engineering, and EPC/EPCI phases
  • Serve as the discipline lead and main technical interface for instrumentation with clients, project management, vendors, and other engineering disciplines
  • Supervise and guide a team of instrumentation engineers and designers, including task planning, technical checks, and deliverable approvals
  • Develop, review, and approve key instrumentation deliverables, including but not limited to: Instrument Index and I/O Lists, Instrument Data Sheets and Specifications, Control Narratives and Cause & Effect Diagrams, P&ID reviews and validation, Hook-up drawings, loop diagrams, and instrument layouts, Telecom and control system interfaces (DCS, ESD, F&G, PLC)
  • Ensure compliance with project specifications, client standards, and international codes (IEC, ISA, API, NORSOK)
  • Coordinate with procurement and vendors for technical bid evaluations, document reviews, FAT/SAT, and vendor clarification meetings
  • Support site activities when required, including commissioning, pre?commissioning, and offshore support
  • Identify technical risks, ensure quality assurance, and provide mitigation solutions throughout the project lifecycle
  • Assist with engineering planning, progress monitoring, manpower estimation, and reporting.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Instrumentation, Control, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent
  • Minimum 10-12 years of experience in instrumentation and control engineering within the offshore oil & gas / marine / offshore construction environment
  • Strong hands?on experience with offshore facilities such as platforms, FPSOs, subsea tie?backs, or offshore vessels
  • Solid knowledge of instrumentation systems, control systems (DCS/ESD/F&G), and field instruments used in offshore applications
  • Experience working in multidisciplinary project teams and interfacing with electrical, process, and mechanical disciplines.
