Job Description

We are seeking a confident and experienced Lead Electrical Engineer / Designer to join our client, an established consulting firm in Waterloo, Ontario. In this role, you will spearhead electrical engineering projects within the building services industry, focusing on diverse sectors including residential, educational, institutional, and commercial developments. As a senior member of the team, you will be responsible for the full project lifecycle—from winning proposals and overseeing complex technical designs to managing client relationships and mentoring junior staff. This position is an in-office position intended to fill an existing vacancy within our multi-disciplinary engineering environment.

Job Responsibility

  • Lead the design for major electrical construction projects, ensuring all technical requirements—including power distribution, fire alarms, life safety, generators, and lighting controls—are met
  • Provide daily technical direction to a minimum of two subordinates, conducting performance reviews and providing mentorship to junior staff
  • Conduct site reviews, manage change notices, and oversee contract administration to resolve construction issues effectively
  • Respond to and secure Requests for Proposals (RFPs) to drive firm growth
  • Manage and nurture professional relationships with building owners, architects, and contractors
  • Select appropriate equipment and verify all design calculations to ensure compliance with building classifications and client standards

Requirements

  • P.Eng., C.E.T., LEL, or LET designation is strongly preferred
  • 10+ years of electrical engineering experience specifically within the building services industry
  • Extensive knowledge of OBC, OESC, NFPA, and IES codes
  • Proven track record in educational, commercial, or residential sectors
  • Proficiency in delivering documentation for power systems, auxiliary systems (IT/AV), and site photometric plans
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills, with a focus on analytical thinking and customer service
  • Comfortable working out of the Waterloo, ON office 5 days a week
