We expanded into Houston in 2022 and Toronto in 2023, strengthening our North American presence. We specialize in the design, procurement, and construction management of mineral processing plants. As a Lead Designer, you will be responsible for leading design and drafting activities on assigned projects, with a focus on plant layout and mechanical design deliverables. Working closely with engineering leads, this role provides technical guidance and coordination to the design team within the project, while actively contributing to layouts, 3D models, and 2D drawings. The Lead Designer ensures consistency, quality, and adherence to standards across all deliverables, and supports the team in meeting project timelines. Within the project structure, the Lead Designer acts as the design lead for assigned projects, providing day-to-day direction to designers assigned to the project. This role includes functional leadership within the project team, but does not include formal people management responsibilities. This role is primarily hands-on, combining design execution with project-level coordination and technical support. The role operates under a hybrid work model, combining regular in-office presence with remote work and occasional in-person client meetings. The Project Development Manager reports directly to the Principal Designer.
Job Responsibility:
Lead and coordinate design and drafting activities on assigned projects, acting as the design lead within the project team
Develop and review 2D drawings, 3D models, general arrangements, and layouts to ensure quality, accuracy, and consistency
Coordinate design deliverables across disciplines to ensure integration and functionality of the overall design
Provide day-to-day direction, coordination, and technical guidance to designers assigned to the project
Perform and support drafting checks (format, fit, dimensional accuracy) of drawings and models
Support planning and prioritization of design activities to meet project schedules and milestones
Contribute to the application and continuous improvement of drafting standards, workflows, and procedures within projects
Participate in design reviews and provide input on constructability and practical implementation
Ensure all design work complies with company procedures, project specifications, and applicable standards
Promote a strong safety culture by integrating safety considerations into design and work practices
Collaborate with discipline leads regarding resource planning, development, and performance feedback of designers

Requirements:
7 to 12 years of experience in mechanical design and drafting within the Mining & Mineral Processing industry, with strong plant layout experience
Vocational Diploma (DEP) in General Drafting or higher, relevant industry experience will be considered
Proven experience coordinating design scope and supporting drafting deliverables on projects
Strong experience in plant layout, equipment arrangement, mechanical detail drawings, 3D modelling, and general arrangements
High-level understanding of structural standards (imperial and metric), best practices, and regional design codes
Ability to establish, maintain, and improve drafting standards and procedures
Experience in EPC/EPCM environments, including exposure to construction and commissioning phases
Strong attention to detail with a focus on quality and completion
Ability to work independently while supporting and guiding others
