Job Description:

The Lead Designer - Softlines is responsible for the creative and product development excellence of supplier licensees for the Softlines category. You will also be responsible for supporting the Product Development Manager Softlines in any product development needs, which drives growth for our key retail accounts.

Job Responsibility:

  • Brand guardianship for all of TWDC's brands
  • Protect sensitive information and uphold company policies on asset logistics
  • Execute and project manage Softlines product designs for commercial output
  • Ensure products are delivered on-shelf and on-time
  • Ensure all product approvals are completed in a timely manner
  • Fulfil asset enquiries and general creative-related support
  • Provide creative inspiration, mock ups and strategic pitching
  • Provide design trend updates, plus ad-hoc creative as identified by business needs
  • Manage the communication between licensees and the business in relation to the timing and development of products
  • Support any new business pitches, product concepts and ideation/brainstorms

Requirements:

  • Tertiary Qualification in Design, i.e. Graphic/Communication Design, Product Development, industrial design
  • Minimum 2+ years experience working in a product design environment
  • Strong knowledge in graphic design incl. all software (Adobe Creative Cloud)
  • Can follow the product development process from research to execution
  • Strong relationship building and communication skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Self-starter with proactive growth mindset

Nice to have:

  • Any experience in homewares and fashion
  • Knowledge of TWDC’s portfolio of brands
  • Ability to translate trend into commercial opportunities

  • Owns and understands the design intent for their respective area of the store layout (foods, softlines, hardlines, operational spaces, Meijer Express, Meijer Grocery, or Market Format)
  • Maintains design standard criteria and prototype standards with engagement for stakeholders. Keeps current as strategies change
  • Understands productivity and space performance for respective areas. Uses that information in remodel and new store conceptual development to make good business decisions
  • Leads scope and solution development for creative layout design projects. Articulates design needs, investigates potentially options, and wins acceptance of preferred solution. Facilitates meetings and conversations with stakeholders to find acceptable solutions
  • Works with Procurement equipment and fixture specialists/buyers to find solutions that meet collective goals
  • Coordinates design solutions with the Creative Designers to resolve issues and conflicts between fixtures and signage or other décor elements
  • Assists, as needed, in the layout production activities associated with new stores, remodels, or other capital projects (layouts, spec sheets, virtual store processing, etc.)
