Job Description:

Our client is seeking an experienced Design Engineer to join our team, responsible for delivering high-quality electrical designs for 11kV new connections projects across the UK. This role is critical in supporting the planning, design, and delivery of HV network infrastructure for residential, commercial, and industrial developments.

Job Responsibility:

  • Prepare and deliver detailed electrical designs for 11kV distribution networks, including cable routes, substation layouts, protection schemes, and switchgear specifications
  • Ensure designs comply with relevant DNO/IDNO technical requirements (G81), industry regulations (ENA, BS7671), and Health & Safety standards (CDM)
  • Carry out load assessments, voltage drop calculations, fault level studies, and protection coordination
  • Produce detailed design documentation including SLDs, schematics, cable calculations, construction packs, and bills of materials
  • Liaise with DNOs/IDNOs for design approvals, Point of Connection (PoC) applications, and final acceptance
  • Provide technical support to internal teams including Project Managers during construction and commissioning

Requirements:

  • HNC/HND or Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
  • Proven experience in HV design (11kV) within an ICP, DNO, or IDNO environment
  • Experience with cable routing, substation design, and electrical protection schemes
