  • Drive the design of comprehensive rule and data requirements for WF’s automated underwriting system (Risk Engine) by deeply analyzing origination and related systems, interpreting policy and design documentation, incorporating SME input, and ensuring requirements accurately reflect user interactions, calculations, data transformations, downstream impacts, and required controls
  • Define, own and govern data schemas and supporting documentation, setting standards and best practices that ensure consistent data usage, traceability and operational efficiency across business rules, systems and delivery teams
  • Author, review, and maintain business rules for the Risk Engine, making final decisions on design tradeoffs and ensuring alignment with approved requirements, policy, process, systems, data, and rule implementation
  • Define testing strategies and coordinate team‑wide testing activities, executing validation of business rules and supporting data structures against requirements and system behavior to ensure compliant, production‑ready outcomes
  • Provide escalated production support leadership by driving resolution of production issues and defects through detailed research, stakeholder engagement, and critical analysis to understand scenarios, impacts, root causes, and long‑term solutions
  • Partner and influence across cross‑functional teams, peers, and leadership to ensure alignment, resolve issues, and deliver shared objectives and optimal outcomes
  • Influence and contribute to the development of processes, standards, and governance frameworks that drive operational efficiency, consistency, and improved planning and execution outcomes
  • Mentor, coach and guide peers by sharing deep expertise across rule requirements development, rule authoring, data definition, and testing, promoting consistent application of standards, high‑quality outcomes, and effective end‑to‑end delivery

Requirements:

  • 5+ years of Business Rules Documentation experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
  • Demonstrated ability to independently research complex issues, analyze solution options and impacts, and determine effective approaches in ambiguous or high‑risk scenarios
  • Proven experience performing end‑to‑end business analysis, developing comprehensive rule and data requirements, and authoring business rules, with the ability to translate ambiguous business problems into clear, actionable solutions and recommendations
  • Experience defining testing strategies and quality standards for complex business rules solutions, including planning and coordinating testing approaches across teams, assessing end‑to‑end solution quality, and ensuring production readiness
  • Experience working with business rules management platforms, including the CoBRRa application
  • Experience conducting business rule and user interface testing, including use of CORE, with the ability to assess overall solution quality and readiness
  • Working knowledge of Wells Fargo Home Lending sales and/or operations processes and systems, with the ability to influence process and design decisions
  • Working knowledge and hands‑on experience with automated underwriting tools (LPA, DU, HUD TOTAL Scorecard)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Experience working within Agile delivery teams, with the ability to lead work efforts and manage competing priorities
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to frame complex analysis for diverse business and leadership audiences
