The Lead Business Development Consultant takes a lead role in the identification and pursuit of strategic business opportunities, mergers, acquisitions, partnerships, alliances, joint ventures, and licensing agreements that fit within the overall corporate strategy, business plan, and product portfolio. This position directs the scope, timeline, budget, resources, and milestones for business development projects, while proactively partnering with additional resources (internal and external) for analytical, financial, and strategic support. This role builds key business partner relationships, identifies business opportunities, and leads significant portions of negotiation and closure of business deals. The Lead Business Development Consultant maintains extensive knowledge of current market conditions and ensures that knowledge is shared with others. The position requires a thorough knowledge of the market, the solutions/services the company can provide, and of the company’s competitors.
Job Responsibility:
Identify potential business deals by monitoring publications, announcements, and market trends, attending events, and through contact with potential partners
respond to inquiries and explore opportunities
Screen potential business deals through analysis of internal priorities, corporate strategy, market dynamics, deal requirements, and financials
Communicate frequently and effectively with all levels of the organization
including corporate strategy team members, project team members (core and extended), functional managers, commercial organization, key opinion leaders, stakeholders, and partners
Deliver effective presentations of analyses, findings, and recommendations to senior management, the Exact Sciences leadership team, and the project teams, creating visual displays of quantitative information
Support development of negotiating strategies and positions
propose development of early integration plans for new venture in keeping with deal theses
examine risks and potentials
estimate partners' needs and goals
Partner with immediate supervisor and senior leadership (CFO, etc.) to provide necessary resources to close new business deals by coordinating requirements, developing, and negotiating contracts, and integrating contract requirements with business operations
Manage and prioritize strategies, initiatives, and workload proactively in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment
Apply qualitative and analytical skills with strong attention to detail
Apply experience working in a matrix management organization with primary responsibility for success while relying on a team of resources, which are not direct reports

Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Biology, Genetics, Business Development, Product Management, Business Administration, Management, Marketing, or field as outlined in the essential duties
Significant experience in corporate or business development, strategy, alliance management, or product management experience in the diagnostic, laboratory testing service, or life science industries
Demonstrated ability to evaluate and solve complex business challenges through structured analysis and understand strategic implications of different approaches
Demonstrated success with oral and written communications/presentations, influence and persuasion, and facilitation of cross-functional teams at all levels of the organization
Exceptional interpersonal, teamwork, and verbal and written communication skills
ability to convey important messages and drive focus through variety of communication methods
Ability to identify clear next steps and drive progress in the face of ambiguity and unclear ownership
Ability to influence cross-functional partners at all levels of the organization
Ability to balance cost, quality, and schedule constraints while escalating issues as needed
Ability to prioritize and balance multiple competing priorities within and across multiple initiatives at the same time
Ability to apply experience in risk management, change management, and business development

Nice to have:

Experience in strategy consulting
Experience with NGS (next generation sequencing) and/or molecular diagnostics
Expertise in oncology (to include immuno-oncology)
8+ years of experience in the healthcare industry (diagnostics preferred) with progressive increase in scope and strategic responsibilities
2+ years of project management experience with demonstrated knowledge of project management techniques and tools
