As Shopify scales globally and our transaction volume surges, we're seeking a highly skilled Accounts Payable Lead to drive our Finance team forward. If you're a detail-oriented, growth-focused individual with a knack for building relationships and thriving in ambiguity, this role is your calling.

Job Responsibility

  • Lead and streamline invoice processing, ensuring accuracy in amounts, GL allocations, currency, and more
  • Ensure all invoices are approved per Corporate Delegation of Authority (DOA) guidelines
  • Provide guidance on non-standard transactions like intercompany journal entries
  • Approve new vendor records, confirming authenticity and documentation completeness
  • Manage month-end accruals, oversee journal entries, and ensure comprehensive accrual accounting
  • Prepare accounts payable liabilities and accruals lead sheet
  • Explain variances to internal stakeholders and auditors
  • Implement robust reporting procedures and internal controls
  • Contribute to the development of departmental policies and procedures
  • Engage in ad-hoc projects with Controllership, Tax, and FP&A
  • Participate in deploying new tools and systems
  • Assist with audits by pulling samples and responding to inquiries
  • Collaborate with procurement to ensure compliance with DOA guidelines
  • Respond to vendor and employee inquiries
  • Prepare and analyze AP statistics and KPIs

Requirements

  • Diploma in Accounting
  • 10+ years of experience in accounts payable or a similar finance role
  • Strong grasp of accounting concepts and experience in accrual management and month-end closings
  • Proficiency in Big Query with AI, and a drive to enhance this skill
  • Ability to work independently and maintain high standards in processing speed and accuracy
  • Exceptional attention to detail and task prioritization in a fast-paced environment
  • Effective communication skills for collaboration with internal and external stakeholders

Nice to have

  • Experience with Netsuite and Zip
  • Familiarity with ERP systems like SAP or Oracle
