Layout Environment TD

Wētā FX requires a mid-level to senior Technical Director to work within the Layout Department based out of Vancouver Canada. Layout artists determine the position of the CG camera and 'block' CG characters for shots of a VFX sequence, in addition to creating the CG environment from assets provided by Models. Layout artists consider a shot's framing, composition, camera angle, camera path and movement, and the lighting requirements of each scene. The specific job requirements are: Generalist Maya skills with camera, modelling, animation and rendering; Production experience with procedural environment building; Comprehension of photographic composition and understanding of camera lenses; Ability to match photographic reference of an environment (natural or architectural) with a minimum of assets; Strong technical, communication and organizational skills; A solid understanding of matchmove concepts; Knowledge of Nuke, Katana, and scripting abilities in Python a plus; At least 3 years layout experience in Visual Effects on feature films. This role will be performed onsite at Wētā’s Vancouver Hub. Ideally you would already be based in / or be available to relocate to Vancouver and be eligible to work; and available to start work within the next couple of months.
