Lawyer (Adults) **Location:** Dorchester (Remote) **Contract Type:** Temporary – 3 months **Hours:** 37 hours per week **Start:** ASAP About the Role I am seeking experienced **Adults Lawyers** to support Dorset Local Authority on a temporary basis for an initial 3‑month assignment. This role focuses on delivering high‑quality legal advice and representation across Adult Social Care matters, with a strong emphasis on **Court of Protection** and **Mental Health** work. You will manage a varied caseload, provide clear and practical legal advice to client departments, and handle complex statutory responsibilities. At least one appointed candidate must have demonstrable experience managing **Deputyship applications** in the Court of Protection.

Job Responsibility

  • Manage a caseload of Adult Social Care legal matters
  • Conduct Welfare and Section 21A applications in the Court of Protection
  • Provide advice on Ordinary Residence matters
  • Handle Nearest Relative applications
  • Manage and advise on Deputyship applications
  • Provide legal advice relating to the Mental Health Act
  • Attend hearings and undertake advocacy where required
  • Work collaboratively with internal teams and external partners

Requirements

  • Qualified Solicitor, Barrister, or Chartered Legal Executive with a valid practising certificate
  • Proven experience in Adult Social Care law
  • Strong experience in Court of Protection matters, including Welfare and Section 21A applications
  • Knowledge and practical application of the Mental Health Act
  • Experience advising on Ordinary Residence and Nearest Relative matters
  • must have experience managing Deputyship applications
  • Excellent communication and case management skills
  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment and manage competing priorities
