Under general supervision is responsible to the Shift Lieutenant of the uniform force and in his absence the Shift Sergeant for the protection of life and property at the Medical University Of South Carolina, enforces the laws of the state of South Carolina. Enforces the laws of the state, county, and rules and regulations of the Medical University of South Carolina.
Job Responsibility
Enforces the laws of S.C. and the rules and regulations applicable to MUSC in an impartial manner
Patrols assigned area diligently, giving particular attention to and often rechecking those locations where security problems have been most frequent
Makes preliminary investigations and submits necessary reports accurately and completely
Assists all persons seeking directions, information or assistance
Responds punctually to all assignments and immediately to all emergencies
Informs the relieving officer of all information or concerns that would be of interest or importance
Perform other related duties as assigned
Requirements
A high school diploma
Certification by the Department of Public Safety, in accordance with Section 23-6-430 of the 1976 South Carolina Code of Laws
Some positions require a commercial driver's license
Certification by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Training Council, in accordance with State Law (23-23-40) is required
Must pass a background check
Ability to obtain and maintain a valid driver's license
Computer literacy
Ability to work overtime as required
Ability to stand/walk for extended periods of time
Ability to lift materials up to 50 lbs, unassisted
Ability to lift, drag, pull persons to safety, weighing up to 300 lbs., assisted
Ability to hear and recognize various alarms, verbal summons and other sounds within noisy background areas
Ability to maintain 20/40 vision in both eyes, corrected
Ability to climb stairs to the top floor of any building within the institutions
Olfactory sense must be intact in order to smell unusual odors
Ability to carry heavy objects, i.e. persons, a distance of 15 to 20 feet in emergency situations
Ability to engage in physical confrontations with suspected offenders
Ability to run for extended distances
Ability to sit/drive a patrol vehicle for extended periods
Ability to ride a bicycle for extended periods
Ability to kneel
Ability to bend
Ability to climb ladders
Ability to work at heights at maximum height of buildings within institution boundaries
Ability to sit, for extended periods, while operating a patrol vehicle
