We are looking for a highly organized and proactive Law Clerk to join one of our top clients in the Insurance industry! In this role, you will be instrumental in managing legal practices, supporting counsel through all stages of litigation, and ensuring clients receive exceptional service. Job Responsibility
Practice Management: Assist in the day-to-day management and organization of the legal practice
Drafting: Draft pleadings, application materials, Letters of Instruction, and expert retainer materials
Undertakings Management: Handle all facets related to undertakings. This includes preparing the initial undertaking chart, corresponding with counsel to request undertakings, reviewing received answers to ensure satisfaction, and drafting motion materials to compel answers when necessary
Independent Examinations: Coordinate all aspects of arranging Independent Examinations, including retaining experts, preparing expert briefs, and corresponding with opposing counsel to arrange their client's attendance
Document Review & Production: Review productions and provide counsel with pre-discovery lists of further documents or information to request. Manage production requests and prepare Affidavits of Records
Summarization: Summarize complex document productions and other materials, including medical records
Trial & Arbitration: Assist with comprehensive preparation for trials and arbitrations
Technology Integration: Effectively utilize AI tools and software in your day-to-day work to optimize efficiency
Requirements
College diploma and/or university degree in a legal program (Paralegal, Law Clerk, Legal Office Administration), or any combination of equivalent education and experience
Minimum of 3 to 4 years of experience in Insurance Defence Litigation, specifically working as a Law Clerk
An excellent understanding of tort matters
Must be eligible to work in Canada
Strong document management skills with the ability to learn and utilize various software programs, including iManage, Citrix, ACL, Nuance, and the Microsoft Office suite
Excellent communication, listening, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills
Exceptional attention to detail, sound proofreading, and strong drafting skills
Ability to deal effectively and professionally with clients, counsel, insureds, and court officials
Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and take initiative while maintaining a disciplined approach to work
Highly organized with the ability to prioritize tasks and execute them in a quality manner with a fast turnaround
An eagerness to learn and a strong desire to be a part of a unified, collaborative team
