The Lapidary Manager will work within the Centre for Ore Deposit and Earth Sciences (CODES) within the School of Natural Sciences. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing geological (rock and sediment) and other related samples for analytical analyses using existing methods within the CODES Analytical Laboratories (CAL).
Job Responsibility:
Oversee budgets and the daily operational workflow of the Lapidary laboratory
Undertake equipment maintenance and oversee equipment upgrades
Be responsible for safe operation of the Lapidary laboratory
Oversee and participate in sample preparation to a professional and high-quality standard
Build and manage effective relationships with customers and researchers to understand and consistently meet their requirements.
Requirements:
Experience cutting, lapping, and polishing rocks or similar skills
Experience managing the day-to-day operations of a laboratory or workshop and technical workflows
Basic knowledge of rock and mineral properties (e.g., hardness, cleavage and fracture)
Demonstrated ability to use computers, including the use of spreadsheet and word processing software packages
Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment along with well-developed organisational and written skills
Awareness in the management of WH&S issues involved in an analytical laboratory environment
