Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Landlord-Tenant Paralegal to join our team. The ideal candidate will have 6+ years of experience handling landlord-tenant matters in New York City including cooperative landlord-tenant matters and be adept at managing multiple cases, preparing legal documents, conducting legal research, and supporting attorneys through all phases of litigation. This role includes performing ad hoc assignments as needed to support the firm's evolving needs.

Job Responsibility

  • Draft and revise legal documents, including Notices to Cure, Notices of Default, Rent Demands, Petitions, Stipulations of Settlement, Rent Demands, and legal correspondence
  • Draft and revise real estate documents such as contracts of sale, riders, leases, and closing statements
  • Proofread and ensure the accuracy of all legal filings before submission
  • Coordinate court filings and e-filings using NYSCEF, ensuring compliance with legal deadlines
  • Liaise with process servers, court clerks, etc. to ensure timely and accurate filings
  • Communicate directly with clients and coordinate with lenders
  • Assist attorneys in preparing for trials and administrative hearings by organizing exhibits, witness lists, and case summaries. Attend court proceedings as needed
  • Conduct thorough legal research using LexisNexis and Westlaw. Stay updated on changes in NY landlord-tenant laws, particularly in relation to coops, including Mitchell-Lama’s
  • Ad-hoc duties as needed

Requirements

  • Minimum 6+ years of paralegal experience
  • at least 3 years of experience specializing in landlord-tenant law
  • Experience handling non-payment and holdover proceedings
  • Proficient in NYSCEF
  • Proficient in legal research tools (Westlaw, Lexis, Bloomberg, etc.)
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Paralegal Certificate a plus
