The testing personnel or lab techs of this high complexity CLIA lab are hands-on personnel responsible for the day-to-day operations. This includes routine testing, quality control, routine maintenance of instrumentation and troubleshooting. This role is onsite at our Bothell location. The ideal candidate will have previous experience working in CLIA/CAP certified labs dealing with either large scale production workflows or high volume/high complexity testing. This position has the potential to go into multiple departments once deemed competent by department supervisors.
Job Responsibility:
Perform routine specimen testing using sterile technique with appropriate PPE
Train and work in at least two of the sub-departments of the CLIA laboratory
Run method controls on batches as well as record these controls & samples appropriately in our LIM system
Perform accurate recordkeeping of daily, weekly and monthly maintenance performed on all the equipment involved in specimen processing
Be familiar with lab SOPs and ensure all laboratory regulatory requirements are met in trained departments
Once trained, be familiar and be able to work with both automated and manual/hybrid test procedures, depending on the department
Be comfortable using independent judgment and prioritize without direct supervision all the time
Knowledge of lab quality control and assurance procedures in order to manage reagent and supply inventories while also documenting these in the appropriate systems
Working knowledge of reagent stability and storage
General knowledge of common lab equipment with an ability to maintain and troubleshoot instrumentation
Know how and when to contact technical support for guidance during instrument malfunction
Ability to take instruction from leads, plan, organize, set priorities, work as a team member and effectively complete assignments
Must have skills required for proper specimen testing including preparation, labeling, handling, processing, and storage of specimens
Knowledge of GLP/CAP/CLIA practices
An awareness of factors that may have an influence on test results, and the skills required to assess and verify the validity of test results through the evaluation of quality control sample values prior to reporting patient test results
Must work with department leads and follow instructions
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in a chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution
Or Associate degree in a chemical, physical, or biological science or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution
Or be a high school graduate or equivalent and have successfully completed an official military medical laboratory procedures course of at least 50 weeks duration, and have held the military enlisted occupational specialty of Medical Laboratory Specialist (Laboratory Technologist)
Experience in a CAP/CLIA regulated laboratory dealing with large scale PCR production workflows
Experience working with molecular biology reagent preparation
Molecular level extraction and amplification (e.g. DNA/RNA) from various sample types
Knowledge or experience with Hamilton STAR liquid handlers and Illumina-based Next Generation Sequencing (NGS)
