South Shore Health is looking to grow their talented and dedicated Lab Technologist team. In this role, the lab technician/technologist will be responsible for the analysis of laboratory specimens and subsequent result reporting according to Laboratory protocol and procedures.
Job Responsibility:
Test Performance: Performs accurate and appropriate testing of specimens
Evaluates specimens for acceptability
Investigates and documents problems with unacceptable specimens
Organizes workload for maximum efficiency
Verifies accuracy of results
Collects data on unacceptable specimens
Notifies Microbiology supervisor of variances
Handles specimens according to storage requirements
Test Result Reporting: Reports test results in a timely manner
Documents proper notification process for critical values
Follows policy on Correcting Results
Notifies providers regarding Microbiology alerts
Notifies Infection Control Nurse
Notifies Massachusetts State Laboratory Institute regarding reportable diseases
Follows established procedures for laboratory quality control and reports discrepancies
Performs daily, weekly, monthly maintenance on instruments and equipment
Troubleshoots instruments, equipment, reagents and patient specimens
Consistently adheres to established Laboratory and Hospital policies for Universal Precautions, Chemical Hygiene and Safety
Consistently communicates with Microbiology team to ensure daily work is completed
Demonstrates competence in assigned work areas
Maintains work area — cleans bench, restocks supplies
Actively participates with orientation and training of new employees and students
Technology – Embraces technological solutions to work processes
Safety Awareness – Fosters a “Culture of Safety”
Requirements:
Associate's Degree in a relevant science preferred
Four (4) months’ clinical laboratory internship preferred
Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) OR Eligible for Medical Laboratory Technician Certification
Eligible for Medical Laboratory Technician Certification (MLTE-AMT) - American Medical Technologist (AMT)
Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) - American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP)
