Job Description:

The Laboratory Technician I Contractor I in the Materials Center of Excellence ("MatCOE") R&D group will be responsible for conducting testing /experiments; writing technical reports; supporting test request work flow; operation of equipment in the materials characterization and testing labs; contribute to the success of the MatCOE R&D group in the support of the expanding portfolio of the Medication Delivery Solutions business; ensure compliance with BD quality policies, procedures and practices through appropriate communication, training and education of sound quality assurance principles; ensure compliance with all local, state, federal and BD safety regulations, policies and procedures.

Job Responsibility:

Conduct testing /experiments
Write technical reports
Support test request work flow
Operation of equipment in the materials characterization and testing labs
Contribute to the success of the MatCOE R&D group in the support of the expanding portfolio of the Medication Delivery Solutions business
Ensure compliance with BD quality policies, procedures and practices through appropriate communication, training and education of sound quality assurance principles
Ensure compliance with all local, state, federal and BD safety regulations, policies and procedures
Follow and support the improvement of the workflow process for the MatCOE R&D labs including instrument operation and maintenance
Work with lab owners to schedule upcoming servicing and calibrations
Ensure appropriate processes are followed for effective and timely stakeholder engagement and completion of assignments
Contribute to the development of creative and novel solutions to technical problems including test fixture and method development
Develop understanding of customer needs and processes to ensure relevant and innovative product development solutions
Actively seek training to improve skills
Ensure technical lessons are reviewed, learned and disseminated
Actively teach and promote learning
Demonstrate strong and clear accountability for the successful and timely completion of assigned tasks

Requirements:

Associate's Degree in a Technical or Science Field
0-5 years relevant experience in a technical discipline, or a combination of equivalent education and experience
Experience with polymer characterization / testing instruments and equipment
Training in laboratory safety and procedures
Good technical skills and judgment
Basic understanding of disciplined product development processes, regulatory and quality requirements
Good communication skills (written and verbal)
Strong fit with BD values
Proficient in MS Office / Word / Excel / PowerPoint

Nice to have:

Experience operating three or more specific instruments / equipment (including Instron mechanical tester
TGA
DSC
FTIR
rheometersRheometers, Profilometers
Experience with basic statistical analysis and software (e.g. Minitab)
