Laboratory Sorting Technician (Night Shift)

Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Laboratory Technician to join our production team on a permanent night shift. In this hands-on role, you will be responsible for semen assessment, media preparation, operation of production flow cytometry sorters, and the processing and freezing of semen samples. You will play a key part in maintaining high standards of laboratory practice, ensuring accurate record-keeping, and supporting the effective operation and maintenance of laboratory and flow cytometry equipment. This position offers a consistent Monday to Thursday night schedule (21:45pm – 06:15am), with a £2,000 shift premium in addition to the base salary.

Job Responsibility

  • Fully comply with CBL H&S directives, SOPs and policies
  • Operate autonomously through different operations respecting CBL lab SOPs, sexed production planning and CBL lab production standards
  • Ensure CBL lab GxP on flow cytometers operation and sorting lab working area
  • Ensure CBL Lab GxP on media preparation, processing of semen samples and working area
  • Perform and act on controls during the sort and sorters operation, media preparation, processing of semen samples and correct/report deviations
  • Maintain workflow, manage tasks, take care of instruments, equipment and tools
  • Collaborate effectively with the rest of the lab team
  • Complete other duties as required

Requirements

  • Working to high personal standards and accuracy, with good troubleshooting and problem-solving aptitudes, and a methodical and organised approach
  • Confidence with IT interfaces and systems
  • Working well within a team but with the ability to work autonomously and take individual responsibility
  • Good technical abilities, and a willingness to understand the operation of general laboratory equipment and flow cytometry sorters

Nice to have

  • Previous experience working in a biology based laboratory and basic laboratory skills
  • Previous knowledge and/or experience in the principles of flow cytometry
  • Previous experience with sperm and AI biology
  • Experience of a commercial production environment
