Job Description:

One-year term appointment in the serology lab to enable increased capacity for emergency animal disease testing, supporting responses to emergency animal disease events. Work closely with colleagues, managers and clients to ensure effective information transfer under quality management framework at the Australian Centre for Disease Preparedness.

Job Responsibility:

Delivery of outputs across quality-assured laboratory diagnostic services
Disease surveillance testing for exotic and infectious diseases of veterinary significance
Laboratory housekeeping activities
Contribute to quality assurance requirements including reporting tests and maintaining accurate test records
Assist other diagnostic teams within the program as required
Work in biologically secure laboratories at physical containment level 3

Requirements:

Bachelor of Science (Hons) degree or equivalent relevant work experience in Biological Sciences or a related discipline
Experience conducting and coordinating laboratory‐based experiments or tests
Demonstrated ability to plan and schedule laboratory workflow
Demonstrated ability to address underlying issues of complex and ill-defined problems
Experience working both independently and cooperatively as a member of a project team
Strong written and verbal communication skills

Nice to have:

Experience working in a diagnostic lab conducting laboratory‐based diagnostic tests
Experience using a LIMS (Laboratory Information Management System) within a quality management system
Experience working with infectious viruses in a PC3 laboratory environment
Ability to perform serology testing such as ELISA and virus neutralisation assays
