Job Description:

We are currently seeking a Business Unit Manager for the Mackay Laboratory. As the Laboratory Business Unit Manager, the areas of focus of your role will be to manage the operations of the laboratory, driving a positive Health, Safety and Environment culture, managing quality processes and systems, business development and key account management, financial management and team management.

Requirements:

  • Experience and knowledge in the applications of Quality Systems
  • Business management experience in a technical and service orientated environment

  • The ability to effectively lead, coach, mentor and train staff
  • Tertiary Degree qualifications in Science, Geology or Chemistry or Financial discipline are ideal
  • Advanced business and operational planning skills
  • Demonstrated ability to manage service and project delivery across functional groups
  • Advanced communication, interpersonal and influencing skills
  • An understanding and commitment to QHSE requirements

Nice to have:

Coal laboratory experience would be beneficial but not essential

  • Provide program management assistance and advisory services for several automated Microsoft access tools, any replacement tools, and their interconnectivity with external systems such as Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) Enterprise Business System (EBS) and PEGA Software Application Suite
  • Maintain work units ensuring the integrity of the data, and processing reports for all customers regarding Unified Research and Engineering Database (URED) status, contractor/contract information, case file close out, research summary, unapproved work units, missing paperwork and missing fields, ensuring the specific types of data will satisfy government needs are acquired
  • Accomplish all tasks associated with work units within the selected application and ensure data is transmitted to HQ AFRL Data Repository (ADR) and DTIC Unified Research and Engineering Database (URED)
  • Ensure permissions are set appropriately within the PEGA Work Unit App. Maintain expert familiarity with the requirements and programs within PEGA/COGNOS/PIEE data systems
  • Conduct training sessions on PEGA Work Unit App, COGNOS, and Work Unit requirements for Directorate on an as-needed basis
  • Provide acquisition management advisory and assistance expertise for preparation of memos, briefings, and reports related to work unit management and participate in selected Directorate meetings
  • Advise and assist AFRL/RW Work Unit managers to keep abreast of current policy, procedures, standardization, and streamlining initiatives applicable to data management and recommend changes as needed
  • Assist Program Managers with maintaining their electronic Case Files, providing assistance with assigned functional area(s) and/or technical division(s). implementing, managing and executing various Information Management Programs using databases, tool suites, and automation tools in order to maintain currency and accessibility of associated data/information, to provide insight to upper management and HHQ
