Relevant Scientific degree (or equivalent experience working as an MLA/Sample Tech in a medical lab)
Ideally some prior experience of working in a similar, regulated environment and familiarity with handling medical samples
Excellent attention to detail, time management and communication skills are essential

Job Responsibility

Receive, label and record data into LIMS for incoming Blood samples, ensuring excellent attention to detail
Preparation of samples for analysis via centrifugation
Equipment checks and basic troubleshooting/maintenance
Assist with other duties to ensure the smooth operation of the lab such as clinical waste disposal and reagent/supplies procurement

Produce accurate and legible grossing notes with code description that provide the Pathologist with a clear understanding of the sections taken
Communicate with and respond to Pathologists, transcription, and Lab Coordinator email communications
Identify problems and special handling cases
Trim tissue for specific re-gross requests when requested in a timely manner
Assist with daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance of various machines and equipment
Exercises judgment in evaluating and reporting results
Report any technical/QC problems to their lead tech or supervisor
Crosstrain and develop knowledge of multiple specialties within department/lab
