Job Description

As the Laboratory Analyst & Operations Administrator, you will support the day to day running of the lab and the coordination of intake operations prior to, during and post-harvest. This includes ensuring that all lab equipment is maintained, cleaned and tested appropriately. To assist the Production Manager with tasks such as plant and process checks, administration, BOPEX meetings, preparation and participation in other audits and site visits.

Job Responsibility

  • Work closely with Plant & Production Manager to ensure health & safety is the top priority on site
  • Collaborate with Production Manager and Quality Team to maintain food safety compliance
  • Support monthly due diligence testing program to uphold compliance standards
  • Participation in RCFAs (Root Cause Failure Analysis)
  • Conduct GEMBA walks to monitor workplace practices and safety
  • Day-to-day running of the lab ensuring smooth operations
  • Support malt analysis & COA generation (Certificates of Analysis)
  • Maintain, clean, and test all lab equipment regularly
  • Assist with department samples for standardisation
  • Ensure process machines are calibrated and fit for use (e.g., Agri Check, FOSS 1241)
  • Manage all chemical stocks in the lab and malting process
  • Support production management with plant and process checks, including off-kiln malt analysis
  • Assist commercial team with investigations into quality requests
  • Support barley supply chain team with quality testing throughout the year (Q0, Q1, etc.)
  • Participate in regional projects such as intake standardisation when required
  • Support production during customer visits and audits
  • Support intake operations before, during, and after harvest to ensure smooth processes
  • Provide holiday cover for out-loading dockets when necessary
  • Attend daily BOPEX meetings to align with operational priorities
  • Production administration support: ensure all data is logged in JDE accurately and on time
  • Support malt stock management in JDE
  • Support barley & production stock management in JDE
  • Ensure samples are logged onto MAPPS and activate additional testing where required
  • Generate purchase orders (POs) for review and approval
  • Coordinate and organize reliable and accurate data to support operations

Requirements

  • Degree in Food Science, Chemistry, Biology, or related discipline
  • Experience in laboratory operations including equipment calibration, chemical stock management, and sample analysis
  • Knowledge of food safety and compliance standards (HACCP, GMP, ISO)
  • Proficiency in data management systems such as JDE and MAPPS
  • Experience in quality testing methods for malt and barley (e.g., COA generation, intake testing)
  • Strong communication skills for daily meetings, audits, and customer interactions
  • Organizational and administrative ability to manage data, generate POs, and support stock management
  • Attention to detail to ensure compliance, testing accuracy, and reliable reporting
  • Ability to work collaboratively with production, commercial, and supply chain teams
  • Problem-solving mindset demonstrated through participation in RCFAs and quality investigations
  • Fluently spoken and written in English
