Job Description

Reporting to the Senior Director, Labor Relations of the Company and dotted line into the Program Director of a key business group, the Labor Relations Manager will be responsible for managing and/or providing Labor Relations support to a key business group in California and serve as Chief Negotiator in all collective bargaining agreement negotiations, mediations, arbitrations, grievances, and NLRB activities pertaining to this business group. This position requires a strategic thinker with excellent negotiation, communication, and leadership skills to advise management, oversee labor relations programs and ensure compliance across the board. The successful candidate utilizes experience or labor relations expertise to solve problems, develop and execute objectives for self and others, and can affect short-term and long-term business goals.

Job Responsibility

  • Build strong partnerships with the Program management team and union leadership through the resolution of employee grievances, contract negotiations and contract interpretation
  • Administer and interpret Collective Bargaining Agreements across assigned state and/or federal government contracts located in California
  • Serving as Company advocate for all facets of grievance and arbitration management
  • Serve as chief spokesperson/negotiator in assigned contract negotiations and lead the development of negotiations strategy in collaboration with Management and HR teams
  • Oversee training programs and conduct supervisor and management training in conjunction with other Labor Relations, Human Resources and Legal colleagues regarding law labor compliance
  • Oversee and conduct risk assessments
  • advising leadership and management on ways to reduce potential liabilities
  • Manage and advise on grievances and charges related to the National Labor Relations Act within assigned contract(s)
  • Partner with Human Resources and other cross-functional teams across the business sector to ensure compliance and adherence to all CBA’s
  • Perform all other position related duties as assigned or requested

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Labor Relations or Human Resources or a behavioral science
  • At least 5 years of progressive Labor Relations work experience within the state of California
  • Experience as Chief Negotiator in Union negotiations for at least 5 years
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of the Davis Bacon Act, the National Labor Relations and Fair labor Standards Acts, OSHA and EEO
  • Demonstrated supervisory, interpersonal, verbal and written communications skills
  • Must possess excellent negotiation skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a diverse group
  • Possess working knowledge of data processing and integrated software applications
  • Ability to perform detail-oriented work

  • Proven experience serving as a coach to senior leaders for their organizations on LR matters
  • Adapting well to change and working collaboratively with strategic influence to drive LR initiatives across assigned business groups within the Company
