Job Responsibility

Compiling, preparing, and summarizing relevant materials for use by attorneys in discovery
Indexing, tracking, and controlling case related materials
Reviewing documents for relevance and inclusion in case file
Assist with the preparation of court filings, including cite and fact checking legal briefs, cross-reference checks, confirming proper Bluebook citation, proofreading, and assembling of exhibits and appendices

Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school
Active membership in the Allegheny County Bar Association
3+ years of experience in education law, employment law, or related legal practice
Strong litigation skills, including legal research, drafting, and courtroom advocacy
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build client trust and manage sensitive issues tactfully
Knowledge of federal and state laws governing education and employment, particularly as they pertain to school districts and/or municipal governing bodies

Job Responsibility

Represent public officers (fire fighters, paramedics, police officers, etc.) in various legal matters including workers compensation, disability claims, employment disputes, and internal investigations
Draft legal arguments for administrative discipline and criminal investigative matters
Handle disciplinary appeals, administrative hearings, retirement funds, and labor board negotiations
Conduct administrative hearings and arbitration on a weekly basis, with occasional travel to visit various public entities
Utilize legal software such as Merus Case for case management and documentation
Collaborate with team members to ensure thorough legal representation for clients
Bill out time in accordance with company policy and maintain accurate records of all billable hours (but no billable hour requirement!)
