Job Description

A highly regarded Michigan law firm is seeking a Labor & Employment Associate to join its management-side Labor & Employment Practice Group in Detroit, Grand Rapids, or Kalamazoo. This opportunity offers a broad mix of employment counseling, compliance, litigation, workplace investigations, and labor relations matters. Attorneys work directly with employers across a variety of industries, advising on day-to-day workplace issues while also handling complex disputes and strategic employment matters. The group has a well-established reputation in the Michigan market and represents employers ranging from closely held businesses to large institutional clients. Associates receive meaningful responsibility, direct client interaction, and exposure to both counseling and litigation matters early in their careers.

Job Responsibility

  • Advise employers on hiring, discipline, termination, accommodations, leave administration, wage and hour compliance, and workplace policies
  • Draft and revise employment agreements, handbooks, policies, and related workplace documents
  • Conduct and support workplace investigations
  • Represent employers in state and federal employment litigation matters
  • Handle administrative proceedings before agencies such as the EEOC and MDCR
  • Participate in discovery, depositions, motion practice, mediations, and hearings
  • Support traditional labor matters, including collective bargaining, grievance administration, and labor strategy, where applicable

Requirements

  • J.D. from an accredited law school
  • Admission or eligibility for admission to the Michigan Bar
  • Approximately 2-6 years of labor and employment experience
  • Strong research, writing, analytical, and communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple matters in a fast-paced environment
  • Commitment to client service and practical problem solving
