Job Description:

The main function of the lab technician role will be to perform a variety of routine laboratory operations to assist scientists in making qualitative and quantitative analyses of a variety of materials. The lab technician may work in one or more of the roles described below. All roles require logging and setup of samples, working in the laboratory to gather results, and recording the results consistently and accurately in a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS). The ideal candidate would collaborate effectively with teammates to complete interdependent tasks in a timely manner and take part in troubleshooting challenges when needed.

Job Responsibility:

  • Perform a variety of routine laboratory operations to assist scientists in making qualitative and quantitative analyses of a variety of materials
  • Logging and setup of samples
  • Working in the laboratory to gather results
  • Recording the results consistently and accurately in a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS)
  • Collaborate effectively with teammates to complete interdependent tasks in a timely manner
  • Take part in troubleshooting challenges when needed
  • Perform a variety of routine lab operations to assist a team processing more than 100,000 samples annually for detection of Legionella
  • Work with technical direction from supervisor
  • Data Entry of customer and sample information
  • File and retrieve corporate documents, records, and reports
  • Respond to incoming correspondence, including email and phone messages
  • Light laboratory tasks such as storing and disposal of completed samples
  • Filter and plate water samples according to ISO standard method
  • Prepare supplies for routine testing
  • Restocking lab supplies, routine laboratory cleaning
  • Receive samples in the building, and open packages

Requirements:

  • Degree in biology, chemistry or relevant field
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily in the time allowed
