Job Description:

The Lab Tech 2 receives and/or processes specimens, performs clerical checks and support functions. May perform phlebotomy.

Job Responsibility:

  • Receives and/or processes specimens
  • Performs clerical checks and support functions
  • May perform phlebotomy
  • Conducts routine laboratory procedures where the range of possible errors is limited
  • Sorts, labels and records patient specimens
  • Sets up specimen, material and equipment in preparation for Medical Technologist to perform test
  • Operates centrifuge, simplex timers, cell washer and other Laboratory equipment
  • Maintains appropriate inventory of supplies
  • Maintains effective communication and working relationships with all laboratory personnel, other disciplines, and external customers
  • Participates in laboratory projects and educational activities

Requirements:

  • H.S. Diploma/GED Equivalent
  • Less than 1 Year of Experience
  • Phlebotomy skill for all age groups
  • Ability to comprehend and communicate instructions
  • Skill in the use of computers and related software applications
  • Knowledge of safety and infection control standards
  • Ability to work in a team environment

  • Maintain protection of the environment and the health and safety of our employees, customers, and the communities in which we operate and/or transport our products, as our highest priority
  • Perform routine analyses, including control samples and calibration checks, without supervision
  • Provide laboratory support including (but not limited to): preparation of equipment and reagents, storage of samples, packaging and shipping samples, stockroom/supplies, sampling, and instrument and method maintenance
  • Troubleshoot, repair, and adjust instruments and methods, coordinating with instrument service representatives when necessary
  • Maintain analytical data and Lab operating statistical record, to support plant operations and customer specification requirements
  • Analyze & document raw materials, in-process and finished products in accordance with Laboratory Standard Operating Procedures
  • Assure that the plant is furnished with sample analysis for process control decisions and technical studies in a timely, accurate manner
  • Be thoroughly familiar with and able to operate instrumentation such as analytical balances, automatic titrators, ICP, particle size distribution analyzer, ion chromatograph (IC), and gas chromatographs
  • Participate in learning and incorporating new technologies into the laboratory processes as directed by management

  • Lead data analysis and evaluation for cross-project studies focused on driving operational improvements in laboratory environments
  • Manufacture proficiency samples comprised of mixed sample pools utilizing good judgement to ensure analyte concentrations are within analytical measurement ranges for the species utilized
  • Evaluate analyte concentrations and determine the necessity to adjust through dilution or additive addition to establish meaningful concentrations
  • Establish lyophilization processes for multi-matrix sublimation through studies to ensure specimen viability upon reconstitution, post lyophilization
  • Maintaining web-based result entry platform, ensuring appropriate modules are in place for quarterly result submission
  • Evaluate results of proficiency testing and determine acceptability based on total allowable error limits established through such organizations as ASVCP and CLIA
  • Compile data and report findings of proficiency submissions to the participating laboratories and QA Specialists
  • Perform statistical analysis to report to the quality assurance director along with bi-monthly production/status reports
  • Establish a pipette calibration schedule to be applied company-wide, and perform all pipette calibrations to ensure they perform within manufacturer specifications
  • Troubleshoot out-of-specification pipettes and perform any necessary repairs or adjustments to return pipettes to within compliant performance specifications
