Participates in the conduct of multisensory perception research studies, including electrophysiologic data collection in children with and without autism or other developmental disabilities. Provides direct research support and offers an opportunity for future experimental and scientific development. Supports the planning, design, and execution of experiments. Uses existing protocols and collaborates with other laboratories. Works independently with occasional input on modifying, varying, or adapting standard laboratory electrophysiologic data collection procedures to meet the special needs of research projects related to neurodevelopmental disabilities.
Job Responsibility:
Participates in the conduct of multisensory perception research studies, including electrophysiologic data collection in children with and without autism or other developmental disabilities
Contributes to the design and conducts electrophysiologic (EEG) research to explore and support lab goals, grant commitments, scientific discovery, and/or development
Supports the implementation of custom, research project-specific data workflow solutions for data collection, management, reporting and analytics
Creates and maintains custom software programs (built in MATLAB, Virtual Reality development in Unity, Presentation ® Stimulus Delivery Software) used in acquiring and analyzing experimental data
Conducts study visits to collect neurophysiologic and/or psychological assessments (may include EEG, cognitive and behavioral assessments, participant questionnaires)
Ensures all data are collected and secured within approved parameters and procedures
Records, interprets, and conducts analyses on electrophysiologic and other scientific data utilizing standard methods and develops modifications of standard methods to meet special situations
Participates in formulating research methods and suggesting options for improving quality and recommending solutions
Participates in computer database design and utilization, data analysis, and suggests future improvements in data measurement
Develops research documentation, such as protocols, reports, reviews, publications, manuscripts, and/or summaries
Assists in human subject recruitment and screening activities, including reviewing study site databases for patients that meet the protocol inclusion criteria
May participate in maintaining study site databases or optimizing recruitment strategies
May conduct telephone interviews to screen potential study candidates
Verifies inclusion criteria are met before enrollment
Interacts with children and/or individuals with developmental disabilities in a sensitive and respectful manner
Responsible for the daily operation of the Spectrum Brain Lab research area
Orders, tracks and submits appropriate UR forms/documentation for participant incentives and reimbursement, study office supplies and equipment
Teaches laboratory techniques and instrumentation procedures to students and laboratory technical support staff and counsels them on technical problems
Disseminates research findings to internal and external audiences
Ensures the quality standards and scientific integrity in research activities are maintained
Remains knowledgeable of relevant scientific and technical developments
Attends/participates in weekly lab meetings, and as appropriate, institutes, and seminars
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree
2 years of related work experience
Ability to troubleshoot and repair equipment as needed
Excellent organization skills to help coordinate a number of projects, and the skills to help train inexperienced personnel
Attention to detail, patience, and a positive, participant-centric attitude
Familiarity with MS Office programs (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel)
Nice to have:
Programming experience in Matlab, Python or Unity/C#
