Telecom Outside Plant Laboratory Engineer is responsible for overseeing day‑to‑day laboratory operations. This role coordinates with lab supervisor and product development engineering to translate requirements into improved evaluation methods, analysis equipment and plans, ensuring timely and compliant evaluation of product to Telcordia Generic Requirements specifications. The ideal candidate is hands‑on, detail‑oriented, and effective at cross‑functional communication with a strong focus on safety, quality, and schedule adherence.
Job Responsibility:
Oversee day‑to‑day laboratory operations
Coordinate with lab supervisor and product development engineering to translate requirements into improved evaluation methods
Plan daily/weekly workload to eliminate roadblocks and maintain schedule
Maintain a culture of continuous improvement
Own laboratory readiness: equipment calibration, and consumables inventory
Ensure compliance with safety, regulatory, and quality system requirements
Implement and maintain standard operating procedures, work instructions, and risk assessments
Oversee fixtures, instrumentation, and data acquisition systems
Facilitate cross‑functional evaluation plan generation
Translate GR specification requirements into detailed procedures
Coordinate procedure execution with lab technicians
Monitor progress, troubleshoot issues, and adapt plans
Review and validate results
lead root‑cause analyses for failures
Ensure accurate, repeatable measurements and data integrity
Analyze data, generate clear technical reports, and present findings
Maintain auditable records aligned with GR compliance and QMS requirements
Support external audits, customer reviews, and regulatory submissions
Identify opportunities to improve throughput, methods, fixtures, automation, and data systems
Drive experiments/Kaizen to reduce cycle time and variability
Benchmark and introduce best practices for GR evaluation of new products
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in engineering (or related field), or equivalent practical experience (3 years)
1–3+ years in a laboratory engineering environment (validation, compliance, or certification), with hands‑on lab experience
Demonstrated experience leading/mentoring technicians or small teams
Working knowledge of Telcordia Generic Requirements or similar specifications
Proficiency with analysis instrumentation
Strong data analysis and reporting skills (Excel, Python/MATLAB preferred)
Solid understanding of safety practices and quality systems in laboratory settings
