We are looking for a skilled L2 SQL Server DBA to join our team and support database operations for a leading workers’ compensation and catastrophic care management client. This role involves end-to-end ownership of their SQL Server (and basic DB2) environments — including performance tuning, deployments, monitoring, and documentation. You will proactively monitor databases, optimize queries, handle deployments via modern tools, and build robust runbooks/SOPs in a no-ticketing, ownership-focused setup.
Job Responsibility:
Monitor SQL Server and DB2 instances for performance, availability, and issues using PRTG, Redgate SQL Monitor, Azure Dashboards, and native tools
respond to alerts and trends in the client environment
Identify, analyze, and optimize problematic SQL queries (execution plans, indexing, statistics, wait stats, query tuning) to improve performance
Perform core DBA tasks: backups/verification, index maintenance, integrity checks, log management, capacity planning, and security reviews
Manage database deployments and changes using: Azure DevOps pipelines (SQL Database Projects, DACPACs, CI/CD for DB code)
DB Maestro for change automation and compliance
Manual/scripted deployments as needed
Create, customize, and maintain Azure-based monitoring dashboards for databases and VMs
configure database-specific PRTG sensors and Redgate alerts
Build and maintain runbooks, SOPs, and knowledge articles for DBA operations, deployments, troubleshooting, and recovery procedures
Document clear escalation paths and handoff details for complex or architectural issues
Proactively track database health metrics, recommend tuning/improvements, and support compliance in a regulated healthcare environment
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or equivalent (or relevant experience/certifications in lieu)
5–8 years of production experience as a SQL Server DBA (SQL Server 2016+ strongly preferred)
