Special Investigator & Compliance Office. Work Arrangement: This role is categorized as onsite. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to GM Deputy Chief Compliance Officer on a full-time basis. The Role – Special Investions and Compliance lead investigations in South Korea involving alleged violations of law and/or GM policy, including fraud, intellectual property theft, embezzlement, conflicts of interest, collusion, kickbacks, bribery, FCPA-related matters, and records falsification. The role also provides compliance counsel on anti-bribery and anti-corruption, export compliance, conflicts of interest, and other key compliance matters. In addition, this position develops compliance communications and training to strengthen GM’s culture of integrity. As a member of the GM Legal Staff, partners with business leaders and cross-functional teams to deliver practical, timely, and high-integrity support while upholding GM’s standards for safety, compliance, accountability, transparency, quality, cost discipline, business knowledge, and teamwork.
Job Responsibility
Lead investigations into alleged misconduct, fraud, and other potential violations of law or GM policy
Gather and document evidence, conduct interviews, and maintain investigation records in line with professional standards
Communicate investigation status, findings, and recommendations clearly and promptly to relevant stakeholders
Provide legal and compliance counsel on anti-bribery and anti-corruption, export compliance, conflicts of interest, and related matters in South Korea
Develop and deliver compliance messaging, leadership communications, and employee training
Conduct due diligence on proposed business partners and assess business activities for compliance risk
Partner with Audit, Security, HR, and other stakeholders on investigations, monitoring, audit activities, and Legal department objectives
Requirements
Law degree from an accredited college/university or attorney license
5-10 years of relevant experience at a major law firm or corporations including employment law, compliance, investigations, and/or prior prosecutorial experience
Bilingual proficiency in Korean and English, with strong verbal and written communication skills
Experience leading investigations into alleged fraud, misconduct, or other legal and policy violations
Strong knowledge of anti-bribery and anti-corruption requirements, including FCPA principles, relevant South Korean law, export compliance, and conflicts of interest
Sound understanding of key legal principles and current legislation in South Korea and the broader region
Strong analytical judgment, problem-solving ability, and the ability to handle sensitive matters with confidentiality and discretion
Ability to build trusted relationships and work effectively across Legal, Compliance, and business teams
Ability to travel domestically and internationally, occasionally with minimal advance notice
Residence in South Korea, or ability to relocate to South Korea

Experience in prosecutorial, regulatory, white-collar, or internal investigations roles
Experience conducting third-party due diligence and evaluating compliance risk in commercial relationships
Experience supporting compliance monitoring, audit follow-up, and fraud risk assessment
Ability to deliver practical, business-oriented solutions that balance legal, compliance, and operational needs
Strong understanding of GM operations, global business environments, and the South Korean business and cultural landscape
Ability to work independently, adapt quickly, and lead projects through completion with minimal supervision
Experience developing fraud awareness or compliance training and leading compliance awareness initiatives
Ability to understand, at a high level, technologies and issues associated with GM operations
