The Kitchen Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of commercial kitchen equipment, appliances, and food carts. This includes refrigeration units, cooking appliances, dishwashing machines, exhaust systems, and more. The technician ensures equipment is in safe working condition and supports smooth kitchen operations by minimizing downtime. This role ensures all kitchen systems and components operate safely and efficiently in compliance with health and safety standards. The Kitchen Technician will also be required to provide support to other areas of the business as operational needs dictate.
Job Responsibility:
Diagnose and repair kitchen equipment including ovens, stoves, grills, fryers, dishwashers, refrigerators, and freezers
Maintain records of maintenance and repair activities
Respond promptly to service requests and emergency breakdowns
Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance on kitchen appliances and systems
Collaborate with chefs and kitchen staff to ensure minimal disruption to kitchen operations during repairs
Ensure compliance with health, safety, and hygiene standards
Provide support to other areas of the business as operational needs dictate, namely to the Ship to Shore, Lagoon, Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, and Painting teams
Requirements:
Technical or Vocational training certificate or diploma in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, HVAC, appliance repair or industrial maintenance, refrigeration and air conditioning technology, and food service equipment repair
The ability to read schematics and single line diagrams
Equipment Repair & Maintenance: Proficient in diagnosing, servicing, and repairing commercial kitchen appliances such as ovens, stoves, grills, fryers, refrigerators, dishwashers, and mixers
Preventive Maintenance: Skilled in performing routine inspections and preventive maintenance to extend equipment lifespan and avoid breakdowns
Electrical & Mechanical Knowledge: Strong understanding of electrical systems, wiring, motors, and mechanical parts in kitchen equipment
HVAC & Refrigeration: Familiarity with heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems, especially those related to refrigeration units and cold storage
Gas Appliance Handling: Knowledge of safety procedures and operational standards for gas-operated kitchen equipment
Ability to speak English clearly, distinctly, and cordially with employees and guests
Ability to read and write English to understand and interpret written procedures
