The Special Education Teacher is responsible for managing a caseload of students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and 504 Plans. This role involves delivering services as outlined in each student’s plan and ensuring their proper implementation in accordance with state and federal guidelines.
Job Responsibility:
Provide both direct and indirect instructional support to students, as outlined in their IEPs or 504 Plans, within a positive and inclusive learning environment
Develop and clearly communicate instructional objectives for all lessons
Utilize specialized instructional strategies and techniques to support the development of sensory and perceptual-motor skills, language, cognition, and memory
Deliver instruction across academic subjects using methods such as phonics, multi-sensory learning, and repetition, tailored to meet diverse learning needs
Establish and maintain a classroom environment conducive to learning by implementing school-wide behavior expectations and procedures
Maintain accurate and up-to-date service logs, lesson plans, and data collection in compliance with applicable laws, district policies, and administrative regulations
Attend IEP and 504 meetings for students on your caseload and actively participate in plan development and review
Complete quarterly progress reports for all students you service
Serve as the primary point of contact for students on your caseload, ensuring consistent communication and support
Collaborate regularly with parents, administrators, testing specialists, social workers, and other team members to support students’ educational, physical, and social-emotional growth
Participate as an active member of multidisciplinary teams and attend weekly meetings with general education teachers to support inclusive practices
Assist with the preparation and administration of standardized assessments
Maintain professional competence by engaging in professional development, curriculum planning, and other growth opportunities
Support school operations as needed, including tasks such as afternoon duties or administrative responsibilities
