An exciting opportunity has arisen for a permanent position for Junior Sister/Charge Nurse to work in our Endoscopy Unit at The Great Western Hospital NHS Trust. We are looking for an individual who is forward thinking, well organised and with a positive attitude towards flexibility and change. You will be expected to rotate between the sites with the new CDC Endoscopy Site opening in West Swindon.
Job Responsibility:
Sustain a high-quality service within the Endoscopy multi-disciplinary team
Be knowledgeable about all Endoscopy procedures and be fully aware of medical treatments relevant to work area
Provide information, education, and psychological support to patients with benign and malignant disease
Run a procedure room and assist Endoscopists with procedures
Provide patient information on Endoscopy procedures enabling them to make informed consent
Understand JAG Accreditation, and work within its framework
Make appropriate referrals to other health professionals
Provide telephone assessments for patients prior to procedures
Assist with OGD, Colonoscopy and Flexible sigmoidoscopy procedures, including more complex procedures such as ERCP, Bronchoscopy and EBUS
Co-ordinate a busy Endoscopy unit and delegate tasks to staff accordingly
Manage staff, including appraisal, sickness management and incident reporting
Understand Roster system and staff allocation- maintain safe staffing levels
Maintain accurate records and contributing to audits
Prepare equipment used during Endoscopy procedures
Prepare and administer intravenous medications. Ensuring compliance of medicine management trust policy
Complete documentation relevant to Endoscopy procedures
Participate in compiling audits for JAG
Act as a clinical expert in their area of practice
Take charge in absence of Senior Sister/Charge Nurse
Participate in the delivery of care to ensure the individual needs of the patients are met
Promote the development, implementation and review of standards policies, procedures and clinical guidelines
Assist in effectively leading and motivating staff in the provision of care and future service development
Promote evidence based clinical practice and assist the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse in performance improvement within the unit
Act as a Link Nurse resource for a specified clinical area and disseminate information to the rest of the team
Act as a resource in nursing practice throughout the specialities
Requirements:
NMC 1st Level registration qualification
A teaching qualification
Evidence of post registration development
Evidence of continuing professional development
Excellent organisational, communication and interpersonal skills
Demonstrates sound understanding of personal accountability
Time management and prioritisation skills
Nice to have:
Diploma/Degree qualification
Leadership qualification
To have an awareness of up to date trust projects and issues
Previous experience in Endoscopy
