We are seeking a motivated Junior Research Fellow to join the Institute for Marine and Antarctic Studies (IMAS), contributing to applied marine environmental research with a focus on Macquarie Harbour. This role supports key research programs examining environmental conditions, ecosystem processes, and management strategies, including the Oxygenation Offset Program. This is a dynamic, research-focused position that combines field-based monitoring and experimental work with data analysis, scientific reporting, and collaborative project delivery. The successful candidate will work alongside researchers, technical staff, and external partners to deliver high-quality science that informs environmental management and policy. The role is well suited to an adaptable early career researcher who enjoys balancing analytical and writing-focused tasks with hands-on fieldwork, particularly in remote locations.

Requirements
A demonstrated ability and understanding of applied marine environmental research, and experience in the design, delivery, analysis, and reporting of scientific research
Experience in the collection, management, analysis, and interpretation of environmental datasets, including familiarity with data quality assurance/quality control procedures, metadata management, and structured data workflows
Demonstrated quantitative analytical skills, including experience using scientific software and statistical tools (e.g. R, GIS, spreadsheets, databases, or similar) for environmental data analysis, visualisation, and reporting
Experience in scientific writing, including preparation of technical reports, research summaries, and/or scientific manuscripts for a range of audiences
Practical experience in marine or estuarine field research, including environmental monitoring, sampling, and operation of scientific instrumentation and associated field equipment, with particular reference to the ability to work regularly in remote locations
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to build and maintain productive working relationships with researchers, technical staff, government, industry, and other external stakeholders
Nice to have
Experience in estuarine or coastal environmental monitoring, water quality assessment, marine biogeochemistry, aquaculture-environment interactions, or related applied marine research areas
Experience operating marine environmental sensors and sampling equipment (e.g. CTDs, water quality sondes, ADCPs, benthic monitoring equipment, autonomous loggers, or similar)
