ILM’s Paint & Roto department is one of ILMs most unique departments, where we aim to provide artists with long, creative careers. This department covers a wide range of work from creating digital articulate mattes and performing plate clean-up, modifying and removing isolated elements for digitally composited sequences, painting comps before film-out to resolve last minute problems and maintaining up to date knowledge of rotoscoping and how to make shapes animate.
Job Responsibility:
An understanding of 2D motion and animation for both rotoscoping and organic hand painting
Breaking down and rebuilding various segments within a plate through the creation and implementation of self-made elements
General plate prep, wire and target removal, clean plate projections, and dynamic recreation through frame by frame hand paint
A strong eye for colour, lighting, perspective, lens and grain structure, and all round aesthetic skills in judging photo-realism
2D tracking and the ability to utilize multipoint tracks and planar trackers
Knowledge of basic compositing techniques, including de-graining and re-graining, keying, and basic color correcting
Requirements:

Prior experience with Nuke or similar compositing packages
Prior experience with 2D image processing softwares such as Photoshop, Krita, or Gimp
Prior experience with 3D Animation tools such as Maya
Knowledge and interest in photography and digital manipulation
Artistic knowledge of composition and color
Strong interest in film and cinematography
Ability to work efficiently and under tight deadlines within a production environment
Demonstrate a willingness to learn new tools, techniques, and software
Strong proactive communicator and open to constructive feedback
