The Junior OSINT Investigator will support PEJ’s Ukraine Program by conducting open-source research, documentation review, and analytical work to support case development and reporting. Working under the supervision of the Senior Investigations Coordinator, the Junior OSINT Investigator will collaborate closely with PEJ’s Investigators Coordinator, legal advisers, and analysts. This role is ideal for an early-career investigator or researcher with strong OSINT skills, excellent analytical abilities, and familiarity with the Ukraine conflict or human rights documentation.
Job Responsibility:
Conduct open-source investigations related to the situation in Ukraine, including geolocation, chronolocation, social media verification, digital forensics, and metadata review
Prepare concise analytical notes, incident summaries, and factual briefs
Assist investigators in the compilation, organization, and review of information, documentation, and digital evidence
Contribute to the development of incident lists, timelines, and data matrices for use in case files
Conduct systematic monitoring of relevant news outlets, social media, Telegram channels, and other open-source platforms
Identify emerging incidents, patterns, and topics requiring further investigation
Support the drafting of internal reports and open-source sections of legal or analytical products
Ensure all research follows PEJ’s methodological and evidentiary standards
Participate in internal team meetings, briefings, and coordination calls
Join external meetings when requested and prepare notes as needed
Assist team members with cross-functional tasks as appropriate
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., international relations, political science, criminology, journalism, area studies, security studies)
At least 1–2 years of experience in OSINT work, digital investigations, human rights documentation, conflict analysis, or related fields (professional, academic, or volunteer experience considered)
Demonstrated ability to conduct open-source research using social media platforms, satellite imagery, mapping tools, and verification methodologies
Familiarity with the Ukraine conflict and the regional information environment is strongly preferred
Strong analytical and organizational skills
ability to synthesize complex information
Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and handle sensitive information securely
Fluency in English is required
Ukrainian is highly preferred
