East Sussex College Group (ESCG) is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Junior Finance Business Partner to join our Finance team. This is an exciting opportunity for someone looking to develop their career in finance within a supportive and forward-thinking organisation. You will play a key role in delivering high-quality financial information and supporting budget holders across the College, while building your own business partnering skills. Working closely with experienced Finance Business Partners, you will gain exposure to financial reporting, planning, and operational decision-making, helping teams across the College make informed financial decisions.
Job Responsibility
Supporting the production of monthly management accounts and performance reports
Analysing financial and non-financial data to identify trends and variances
Preparing journals, accruals, and prepayments, and reconciling balance sheet accounts
Assisting with year-end processes and audit preparation financial planning & business partnering
Supporting budget setting and in-year forecasting processes
Monitoring departmental budgets and tracking expenditure against
Providing financial insight to support decision-making
Acting as a key contact for finance queries and supporting non-finance managers financial control & continuous improvement
Ensuring compliance with financial policies and internal controls
Supporting value-for-money reviews and identifying efficiencies
Using financial systems and Excel to maintain accurate records and reporting
Contributing to improvements of processes and reporting tools
Requirements
Studying towards (or recently started) AAT Level 2 qualification
Good understanding of basic accounting principles including budgets, accruals, and variance analysis
Strong Excel and IT skills
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain financial information clearly
Strong attention to detail and analytical ability
Ability to manage workloads and meet deadlines
Nice to have
Experience supporting budget holders or working with non-finance colleagues
Experience working in a complex or public sector environment
Interest in developing business partnering skills
