We are now looking for a motivated Junior Expert to join the Microbiology and Bioinformatics Group at the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC). This position offers a unique opportunity to provide interim services within a highly specialized team, focusing on genomic epidemiology training (GenEpiBioTrain) and wastewater surveillance. You will work at the heart of European public health, contributing to projects that strengthen the continent's ability to detect and respond to infectious disease threats. Your primary focus will be supporting the microbiology team in two key areas: GenEpiBioTrain (Genomic Epidemiology Training) and wastewater surveillance.
Job Responsibility:
GenEpiBioTrain Support: Assist in the candidate selection process and the day-to-day operations of the training activities
Wastewater Surveillance: Support the process of identifying targets for surveillance and contribute to the operation of the external Advisory Group
Pilot Projects: Contribute to the implementation and monitoring of pilot projects related to wastewater-based surveillance
Collaboration: Work closely with interdisciplinary teams to analyze pathogen sequencing data for public health response
Requirements:
A background in Microbiology, Surveillance, or Public Health
Very good English language skills (written and spoken)
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Proficiency in MS Office
Nice to have:
Previous experience working at the EU level
Experience or interest in bioinformatics and genomic data analysis
