Job Description

This is a hybrid role, requiring regular presence near Bridgwater or relocation within reasonable commuting distance. You will support the commissioning of electrical systems, ensuring safe and compliant delivery across key project stages, and will work closely with experienced engineers, gaining hands-on exposure to testing, documentation, and system validation. This role offers hands-on involvement in commissioning safety-critical I&C systems on one of the UK's most significant nuclear programmes. You will build deep commissioning capability, work alongside experienced specialists, and strengthen your long-term career within a global engineering organisation delivering nationally important infrastructure.

Job Responsibility

  • Support commissioning activities in line with safety and quality standards
  • Assist preparation of commissioning procedures, test documentation, and records
  • Contribute to commissioning readiness reviews and system walkdowns on site
  • Support factory acceptance tests alongside suppliers and senior engineers
  • Assist coordination of commissioning sequences and test programme activities
  • Work with contractors during commissioning activities under supervision
  • Review and record test results, highlighting issues to senior engineers
  • Support production of commissioning reports and technical documentation

Requirements

  • Degree or equivalent in Electrical or related engineering discipline
  • Understanding of electrical systems within industrial environments
  • Exposure to commissioning, testing, or installation activities
  • Familiar with electrical drawings, schematics, and technical documentation
  • Knowledge of health, safety, and quality standards on projects
  • Ability to work effectively within structured engineering teams
  • Experience in regulated industries is beneficial but not required

  • Conduct studies: load flow, protection coordination, short circuit, motor starting, cable sizing, grounding
  • Develop specifications and datasheets for the procurement of electrical equipment, instruments and control systems
  • Research, design and evaluate electrical products, equipment, systems and processes to meet requirements by applying knowledge of engineering principles
  • Complete and works in a timely fashion with a diligent attitude, while focusing on safety during work and safety in designs
  • Liaise with vendors, clients, draftspersons, interdisciplinary engineers (process, structural, mechanical, etc.) and other key stakeholders for the duration of design activities
  • Provide site support during construction and commissioning project phases
  • Perform self-appraisals
  • Provide direction to draftspersons during design activities to ensure drawing output meets engineering requirements
