Job Description:

We are seeking a Junior Cost Accountant to join a fast-growing client in the consumer goods (CPG) industry on a contract-to-hire basis. This is a great opportunity for an early-career accounting professional looking to build hands-on experience in cost accounting, inventory analysis, and financial reporting within a dynamic, product-driven environment.

Job Responsibility:

  • Assist with inventory and cost accounting functions, including standard cost updates and variance analysis
  • Support monthly close activities, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and reporting
  • Analyze material, labor, and overhead costs and investigate variances
  • Partner with operations, supply chain, and production teams to ensure accurate product costing
  • Help maintain and update bill of materials (BOMs) and standard cost structures
  • Track and analyze inventory movements, adjustments, and reserves
  • Assist in preparing margin analysis and product profitability reporting
  • Support audits by providing documentation and analysis as needed
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and cost savings

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 0–2+ years of accounting experience (internships or entry-level roles welcome)
  • Strong Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, basic formulas)
  • High attention to detail and analytical mindset
  • Ability to work cross-functionally and communicate effectively

Nice to have:

Exposure to cost accounting or inventory accounting is a plus

  • Own the invoice approval process by coordinating with various departments to ensure all invoices are properly approved
  • Code invoices and employee expense reports to correct GL accounts in a timely and accurate manner
  • Manage the creation and maintenance of vendor records
  • Reconcile vendor statements and communicate with vendors and/or internal departments regarding discrepancies or issues
  • Prepare weekly payment runs, which includes: cheque, wire, EFT, ACH, SEPA and BACs payments
  • Perform semi-monthly credit card reconciliations, by working with stakeholders across the Company to ensure the accuracy, timeliness, and proper documentation of all charges incurred
  • Manage the prepaid expense schedule
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes and efficiencies and provide recommendations on potential cost saving opportunities
